LISTEN – Many of us have forgotten this simple but very important principle. You may come in to see healthcare practitioner describing your symptoms and experiences with several conditions that stand out to you and may define your particular problem. But today, many professionals may wait to see your typical broad based blood work to see if your symptoms fit the results. If your tests are deemed to be normal, based on today’s reference ranges, the symptoms you spoke of may fall on deaf ears. The problem is that many of the standard tests performed today don’t necessarily give the true and total picture. Thoughtfully listening to your experiences and symptoms is key to understanding your underlying problems and to finding and putting into practice a potential solution.
OBSERVE – Definitively, this requires the health professional to observe you as the patient while listening and using his or her past experience to see if they notice anything unusual.
Most would say that they arrived at those advanced concepts of diagnostics though careful scientific reasoning based on their testing evaluations. The Chinese got there by simply observing! I think time will show that we in Western society can be humbled and learn that just maybe they got it right!
Those of us who grow up with an overly high regard for authority are likely to sit back and allow those with letters after their names to preempt our thinking and formulate our truths, simply because, as professionals, they “know” what they’re doing. In doing so, we downplay our own ability to make significant discoveries through self-observation and by observing the behavior of others. By using my years of experience in dealing with many clients, I try to use that important knowledge as a tool along with listening to symptoms as an important part of my evaluation.
HUMILITY and BALANCE – “First do no harm”; is why I could not become an MD of Western medicine and prescribe just drug therapies through reference range tests that haven’t changed much in 50 years. It seemed to me that on its own merit alone, it was not the only answer. That doesn’t mean that Natural Medicine is completely asymptomatic, it simply means that the chances of symptoms being drastic from the norm are far less and I embraced the idea that the body could heal itself if we just give it what it’s lacking or yearning for. Now we all know that this isn’t always the case, and there lies the balance in the practice of medicine that is so important.
This balance is this journey we call LIFE that I firmly revere and believe in!
My way is not the only way that works! AKA HUMILITY!
All forms of the practice of medicine have value and we all need to respect that. Yes, even traditional Western medicine saves many lives and deserves respect. Nothing is all bad or good. The key is through education to empower yourself with enough knowledge to make an informed decision that creates a balance in your life to feel better.
If you don’t feel good about whatever is recommended to you or a program is not working for you, search for change until YOU get it right. That’s right, it’s your decision!
Most clients come to me looking for a change of venue when their current one has become uncomfortable for them and just isn’t working.
Or, they are referred to me by another professional who is humble enough to do so for reasons that they can’t diagnose.
In the end it’s all about you!
What really matters is I am here to serve you as the patient. That means to LISTEN, OBSERVE, stay HUMBLE, treat the person whom I have the honor to serve with respect, and offer a BALANCED treatment that they are comfortable with. That means possibly not just my therapies but working also with whomever else you might choose to be part of your healthcare circle.
It would be my honor to serve you should you choose me to be your teacher and healthcare provider.
