What is Nutritional Medicine?

Good quotes here that summarize reputable sources

“Nutritional Medicine is based on the principle that nutrients, including essential micronutrients, are required for the proper functioning of all the biochemical processes on which our bodies depend. Therefore, when treating symptoms or diseases, we look for the underlying causes which, although often partly genetic, are usually very much dependent on nutritional and environmental factors. As Holistic and Nutritional Medicine professionals we focus on these underlying factors as an approach to better health through the cause, not just the symptom. This is in contrast to the tendency in the conventional medical approach to treat symptoms by means of drugs or surgery.”

“Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health — the primary goal of holistic medicine practice — by gaining proper balance in life.”

Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health.”

whole foodsSo to sum this up, my approach is basically Holistic, but is grounded in Nutritional Medicine means which is really giving you the best of both worlds. There are two forms of accreditation in the United States, namely, Conventional and Holistic Accreditation.  The University of Natural Health is strictly a holistic natural health and holistic nutrition post-secondary institutions that is accredited by three private organizations; “A.A.D.P.” (American Association of Drugless Practitioners), “The H.D.A.” (Hygienic Doctors Association) and the “A.A.N.C.” (American Association of Nutritional Consultants) not accredited by the department of education. Conventional colleges and universities do not accept Holistic Natural Health & Nutrition course credit transfers for the same reason they do not accept course credit transfers from Chiropractic, Homeopathic and Naturopathic Schools because their course curriculum does not academically speaking,  coincide with the traditional teaching and treatment approach. Conventional medical and dietetic schools including Naturopathic Medical schools do not teach a Holistic Natural health and Holistic Nutrition curriculum. Those serious about becoming Holistic physicians are required to learn to treat causes of disease. It is important that potential patients understand, (although there are some exceptions), why we do not normally work in a hospital setting because we need medical credentials and not holistic, as our holistic health philosophy is the polar opposite to the traditional medical mentality. That being said I take great personal pride in serving patients with a balanced approach to all medical philosophies depending on each client’s personal needs and preferences.
